KINNECT was founded in January 2002, with the specific mission to build choreographic, performance, and most importantly childrens dance teaching skills in its members through rigorous preparation for participation in authentic experiences.
The group is primarily made up of undergraduate dance education majors who are carefully selected and mentored in order to fulfill this three-fold mission.
Kinnect’s local outreach activities in elementary and junior high schools are in great demand with annual waiting lists and commitments 2-3 years in advance.
Their format is organized like the Artist in Education residency. Students and mentors collaboratively create an interactive and engaging dance assembly followed by the company dancers teaching thoroughly prepared, integrated dance classes for children grades K-8.

Current Kinnect members and alumni have created dozens of dance integrated lesson plans for elementary school classrooms. Lesson plans focus on kindergarten through sixth grade and address state core standards in dance as well as science, history, English and math standards.
